Amoxicillin(250 Mg)
Uses
Amoxicillin belongs to a class of antibiotic medicines called penicillin. It is used to treat bacterial infections of the respiratory tract (bronchitis, pneumonia), genital and urinary tract (gonorrhoea, ), skin and soft tissue, ear (otitis media); nose, sinus, and throat (tonsillitis, sinusitis); heart (endocarditis), kidney, urethra or bladder, blood (septicemia), teeth and gums (abcesses), typhoid and paratyphoid fever.
How it works
Amoxicillin kills bacteria by interfering with the production of the bacterial cell wall (outer coating of bacteria). As a result, the bacterial cell wall is weakened and ruptured, thereby killing the bacteria.
Dosage
Always follow the instructions of doctor regarding the dosage and duration.
Normal infections in adults, elderly, and children over 10 years: 250-750 mg taken thrice daily.
Severe or recurrent lung infection: 3 -6 g twice daily.
Maximum recommended dose in adults should not exceed 6 g per day, given in divided doses.
Common side effects
Nausea, loose stools, vomitting, skin rash, pain and irritation at the site of injection, severe skin allergies.
Who should not take
Amoxicillin should not be taken if you are allergic to penicillin, amoxicillin or any other antibiotic or its ingredients.
Patients with a viral infection called infectious mononucleosis or glandular fever.Clavulanic Acid(125 Mg)
Uses
Clavulanic acid is used to increase the effect of certain antibiotics (amoxicillin) to treat bacterial infections of the respiratory tract (bronchitis, pneumonia), urinary tract, ear, nose, sinus and throat, skin and soft tissues, bone and joints, and to prevent infections after surgery.
How it works
Clavulanic acid belongs to a group of medicines called beta-lactamase inhibitors. It blocks the activity of a chemical (beta-lactamase), which is secreted by bacteria to protect themselves from antibiotic drugs like amoxicillin, thereby allowing the antibiotics to act against the bacteria. It does not kill bacteria and is never used alone to treat infections.
Dosage
Always follow the instructions of doctor regarding the dosage and duration.
It is always given as a combination with amoxicillin or other antibiotic in a fixed dose combination tablet or capsule.
Treatment of bacterial infections in adults: 125-200 mg thrice daily.
Treatment of bacterial infections in children weighing < 40 kg: 10-15 mg/kg given in two or three divided doses daily.
Common side effects
Diarrhea, fungal infections, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, indigestion, skin rash or itching, increase in liver enzymes (AST, ALT). abnormal blood counts, allergic skin reaction, infection or illness (erythema multiforme).
Who should not take
Clavulanic acid should not be taken, if you are allergic to it, to the associated penicillin antibiotics, or to any other contents of the drug. Do not take clavulanic acid, if you have had penicillin-associated jaundice or skin rash, or liver dysfunction.
