Rabeprazole(20 Mg)
Uses
Rabeprazole is used to treat symptoms of gastric acidity, gastro-intestinal reflux disease (heart burn), stomach and intestinal ulcers, and diseases associated with excessive acid production (Zollinger Ellison Syndrome).
How it works
Rabeprazole belongs to class of medications called proton pump inhibitors. It blocks the activity of the proton pumps in the stomach wall that produce acid, thereby reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach.
Dosage
Always follow the instructions of doctor regarding the dosage and duration.
Heart burn (gastro-esophageal reflux disease): 20 mg of once daily for 4 to 8 weeks.
Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: 60 mg once a day.
Eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection: 20 mg to be taken twice each day and normally for 7 days. Can also be used with other antibiotics for treatment of H. pylori infection.
Common side effects
Common: sore throat, flu like symptoms, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, gas, abdominal pain, back pain, weakness, sleeplessness, headache, dizziness, inflammation of the sinuses, chest pain, dry mouth, indigestion, belching, rash, muscle pains, joint pains, fracture of the hip, wrist or spine.
Who should not take
Children or patients who are allergic (hypersensitive) to rabeprazole or any of the other ingredients.
Patients who are taking atazanavir.
