Levamisole is used to treat worm infections (hook and round worm) and also to treat colon cancer.
How it works
Levamisole belongs to class of medicines called imidazothiazoles. It works by slowing the growth of cancer cells and spread in the body. It also kills the worms by causing paralysis to worm muscles.
Dosage
Always follow the instructions of doctor regarding the dosage and duration.
Worm infections: adults: 150 mg as a single dose; children: 3 mg/kg as a single dose.
Colon cancer: 50 mg orally every 8 hours for 3 days.
Common side effects
Diarrhea, metallic taste, nausea, fever or chills, unusual feeling of discomfort or weakness; headache, dizziness, sores in mouth and on lips, rash, muscle pain.
Who should not take
Patients who are allergic to levamisole or any of its ingredients.
Patients who have pre-existing blood disorders, rheumatoid arthritis or severe kidney problems.
