Amisulpride(50 Mg)
Uses
Amisulpride is used in treatment of acute and chronic schizophrenia with positive symptoms (hallucinations: feeling, seeing or hearing things which do not exist; strange and/ or frightening thoughts, changes in behaviour, usually aggressive) and negative symptoms (becoming withdrawn and subdued).
How it works
Amisulpride belongs to a class of medicines called atypical antipsychotics. It works by maintaining the balance of certain chemicals in the brain, thereby controlling the symptoms of schizophrenia.
Dosage
Always follow the instructions of doctor regarding the dosage and duration.
Adults and elderly: Dose ranging from 50 mg to 800 mg (maximum 1200 mg/day in divided doses). Doses greater than 300 mg should be taken in divided doses.
Common side effects
Trembling, muscle stiffness or spasm, slow movement, excess saliva, restlessness, uncontrolled movements of arms and legs, difficulty in falling asleep (insomnia), drowsiness/ sleepiness, constipation, feeling or being sick, dry mouth, weight gain, unusual production of breast milk in women and men, breast pain, Breast enlargement in men, paused menstrual period, low blood pressure, difficulty in getting or maintaining an erection or in ejaculating.
Who should not take
Patients who are allergic to amisulpride or any of its ingredients.
Patients suffering from breast cancer or having prolactin dependent tumours such as pituitary gland tumours (prolactinomas) or adrenal gland tumours (Phaeochromocytoma).
Patients under 18 years of year (pre-puberty).
Pregnant or breastfeeding women.
