Desvenlafaxine is used in the treatment of major depression.
How it works
Desvenlafaxine belongs to a class of medications called selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). It acts by increasing the amounts of chemicals (serotonin and norepinephrine) in the brain.
Dosage
Always follow the instructions of doctor regarding the dosage and duration.
Adults: 50 mg orally once daily, maximum dose: 400 mg orally per day.
Common side effects
Less common: chills, cold sweats, confusion, dizziness, faintness, lightheadedness, fast, pounding, or irregular pulse, headache, numbness or tingling in the arms or legs, trembling or shaking of the hands or feet, difficulty in thinking, speaking, or walking, weakness.
Who should not take
Persons with allergy to desvenlafaxine or any of the other ingredients of desvenlafaxine medication.
Patients who are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or have taken within the last 14 days.
