Ramipril(5 Mg)
Uses
Ramipril is mainly used to control high blood pressure (hypertension). It is used to treat heart failure, to improve survival after heart attack and to prevent stroke. Ramipril is also used to treat various kidney diseases.
How it works
Ramipril belongs to a class of drugs called ACE inhibitors (angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors), Ramipril inhibits the chemical ACE (angiotensin converting enzyme). As a result, there is relaxation of blood vessels leading to a fall in blood pressure which makes it easier for the heart to pump blood.
Dosage
Always follow the instructions of doctor regarding the dosage and duration of use.
Adults: Oral: 2.5 mg once a day, initially. Dose adjusted as per patient response and maintained up to maximum 10 mg per day once daily or in 2 divided doses.
Elderly: 1.25 mg once a day as initial dose, subsequent doses as decided by your doctor.
Common side effects
Common: Headaches, dizziness, decrease in blood pressure (hypotension), blood potassium, excessive fall in blood pressure with change of position (orthostatic hypotension), fainting (syncope), chest pain, non-productive cough, inflammation of air passages (bronchitis), inflammation of the air-cavities (sinuses) around nose (sinusitis), breathlessness (dyspnea), inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, abdominal discomfort, disturbances in digestion, indigestion (dyspepsia), loose motions (diarrhea), urge to vomit (nausea), vomiting, rashes, muscle cramp/ sudden, involuntary contraction of muscle or group of muscles (muscle spasm), muscle pain (myalgia), unusual tiredness, insufficient blood supply to the muscles of the heart causing a sensation of pressure, squeezing, or pain in chest (angina pectoris), abnormal blood counts,
Who should not take
Patients with known hypersensitivity to ramipril or to any other ACE inhibitor.
Patients with abnormally low or unstable blood pressure or history of swelling of eyes and lips (angioedema).
Patients suffering from narrowing of vessel that carries blood to kidney bilateral renal artery stenosis or renal artery stenosis.
Women in their second and third trimester of pregnancy or if they are breast feeding.Telmisartan(40 Mg)
Uses
Telmisartan belongs to a class of medicines known as angiotensin II receptor blockers. It is used to treat high blood pressure, prevention and treatment of heart attack (myocardial Infarction) and heart failure; when heart is unable to pump sufficient blood. It is also used for kidney failure in patients with diabetes.
How it works
Telmisartan blocks the action of a substance (angiotensin II) responsible for narrowing of the blood vessels. It relaxes the blood vessels; thereby lowering blood pressure.
Dosage
Always follow the instructions of doctor regarding the dosage and duration.
Treatment of hypertension: 40 mg once daily or 80 mg once daily.
Reduction of cardiovascular risks: 80 mg once daily.
In patients with liver impairment, the dosage should not exceed 40 mg once daily.
Common side effects
Low blood pressure (hypotension), dizziness, sore throat, inability to sleep, depression, fainting, vertigo, slow heart rate (bradycardia), shortness of breath, cough, abdominal pain, diarrhea, bloating, vomiting, itching, increased sweating, back pain, muscle cramps and pain (myalgia), blood infection (sepsis), rapid swelling of race and lips, hypersensitivity reactions.
Who should not take
Telmisartan should not be taken:
if you are hypersensitive to telmisartan or any other ingredients of the drug.
if you are more than 3 months pregnant.
if you have severe liver impairment or biliary obstructive disorders.
if you Are taking aliskiren-containing medicines.Hydrochlorothiazide(12.5 Mg)
Uses
Hydrochlorothiazide is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It also treats fluid retention (edema) due to congestive heart failure or cirrhosis of liver or kidney disorder.
How it works
Hydrochlorothiazide belongs to class of medications called thiazide diuretics. It acts by eliminating the fluid and salts from the body. It works on the kidneys to produce more urine which removes extra water and certain salts from the body which in turn lowers blood pressure and swelling.
Dosage
Always follow the instructions of doctor regarding dosage and duration.
Treatment of hypertension in adults: Initial dose of 25 mg once daily. Maintenance dose may increase to 50 mg as a single or 2 divided doses.
Treatment of edema in adults: 25 to 100 mg daily as a single or divided dose.
Children below 18 years of age: Not recommended.
Common side effects
Electrolyte imbalance, decrease in blood cell count, increase in cholesterol, glucose, or uric acid levels.severe skin allergies, stomach irritation, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, jaundice, inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), muscle cramps, presence of glucose in urine, kidney dysfunction, kidney failure, fever, dizziness, hypersensitivity reactions.
Who should not take
Children below 18 years of age.
Patients who are hypersensitive to hydrochlorothiazide or sulfonamide-derived substance.
Patients with problems in passing water (anuria).
