Uses
Enalapril is used in the treatment of heart failure, high blood pressure and left ventricular dysfunction.
How it works
Enalapril belongs to a class of medication called as angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. It works by decreasing certain chemicals that tighten the blood vessels, so blood flows more smoothly and the heart can pump blood more efficiently.
Dosage
Always follow the instructions of doctor regarding the dosage and duration.
Adult (oral tablets or solution): initial dose 2.5 mg-5 mg orally once a day; maintenance dose, 10 to 40 mg orally per day as a single dose or in 2 divided doses; maximum dose, 40 mg orally daily as a single dose or in 2 divided doses.
Children 1 month to 17 years (oral tablets or solution): initial dose, 0.08 mg/kg/day (up to 5 mg) in 1 to 2 divided doses; doses greater than 0.58 mg/kg (40 mg) have not been evaluated in pediatric patients.
Common side effects
Dizziness, blurred vision, nausea, weakness, persistent dry cough, depression, headache, fainting, chest pain, increased heart rate, low blood pressure, breathlessness, taste alteration, loose motion, abdominal pain, rash, severe allergic reaction, swelling of eyes and lips, unusual tiredness, increased blood potassium level, increased serum creatinine, low haemoglobin, low blood glucose, confusion, nervousness, lack of sleep, somnolence, abnormal sensation, vertigo, ringing in ears, palpitations, flushing, low blood pressure with change of position, runny nose, sore throat and hoarseness, difficulty in breathing, vomiting, indigestion, constipation, loss of appetite, dry mouth, stomach ulcers,itching of skin, hair loss, muscle cramps,kidney problems, impotence, increases in blood urea, low blood sodium level, feeling of discomfort, fever, hypersensitivity reactions.
Who should not take
If you are allergic to enalapril or any of the other angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors.
Previous history of swelling of eyes and lips (angioedema) associated with previous ACE inhibitor therapy, hereditary or unknown (idiopathic) angioedema and patient with diabetes mellitus should not use enalapril together with any medication that contains aliskiren. Hydrochlorothiazide(12.5 Mg)

Hydrochlorothiazide is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It also treats fluid retention (edema) due to congestive heart failure or cirrhosis of liver or kidney disorder.
How it works
Hydrochlorothiazide belongs to class of medications called thiazide diuretics. It acts by eliminating the fluid and salts from the body. It works on the kidneys to produce more urine which removes extra water and certain salts from the body which in turn lowers blood pressure and swelling.
Dosage
Always follow the instructions of doctor regarding dosage and duration.
Treatment of hypertension in adults: Initial dose of 25 mg once daily. Maintenance dose may increase to 50 mg as a single or 2 divided doses.
Treatment of edema in adults: 25 to 100 mg daily as a single or divided dose.
Children below 18 years of age: Not recommended.
Common side effects
Electrolyte imbalance, decrease in blood cell count, increase in cholesterol, glucose, or uric acid levels.severe skin allergies, stomach irritation, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, jaundice, inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), muscle cramps, presence of glucose in urine, kidney dysfunction, kidney failure, fever, dizziness, hypersensitivity reactions.
Who should not take
Children below 18 years of age.
Patients who are hypersensitive to hydrochlorothiazide or sulfonamide-derived substance.
Patients with problems in passing water (anuria).
