Theophylline is used to prevent and treat wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness caused by asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (a group of lung diseases that includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema). It is also used to treat temporary interruption of breathing (apnea) in newborns.
How it works
Theophylline belongs to a class of drugs called xanthines. It works in the airways by relaxing muscles, opening air passages to improve breathing, and decreasing the lungs response to irritants.

Always follow the instructions of doctor regarding the dosage and duration.

Adults: Tablet: 5 mg/kg every 6-8 hr.
