Uses
Cytarabine is used for treatment of leukemias (cancer of white blood cells) and to reduce the severity of symptoms associated with acute myeloid leukemia. It is also used to treat leukemia associated with meningitis (inflammation of protective membrane covering brain and spinal cord).
How it works
Cytarabine belongs to a group of medicines called antimetabolites. It works by inhibiting the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body.
Common side effects
Sensitivity to light, Blistering, Difficulty in passing urine, High levels of uric acid in the blood, Shortness of breath, Hives, Rapid and repetitive movement of the eyes, Blood in vomit, Redness of the skin, Nausea, Unexpected bleeding like bleeding gums, Blood in urine, Blood clots causing inflammation at the site of injection, Increase in liver enzymes, Decrease in the amount of blood cells, Watery or burning eyes and inflammation of the corneal surface of the eye, Problems with speech, Bruises, Sores or ulcers in the mouth or anus, Inflammation of blood vessels, Sore eyes with bleeding, Loss of appetite, Fever, Vomiting, Mild pain in the abdomen, Diarrhea, Rash, Hair loss, Impaired kidney function, Reduced consciousness, Vision disturbance, Feeling or being sick, Involuntary
