Uses
Bendamustine is used in the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (type of cancer that starts from white blood cells in the bone marrow), non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (cancer that originates in lymphatic system, the disease-fighting network spread throughout your body) after failed treatment with rituximab and multiple myeloma (cancer that forms in plasma cell) in combination with prednisone.
How it works
Bendamustine belongs to class of drugs called alkylating agents. It works by destroying the DNA, thus killing the existing cancer cells and also preventing the growth and spread of new cancer cells.
Common side effects
Increased bile pigment, Fever, Redness, Bleeding, Disturbed lung function, Low or high blood pressure, Hair loss, Chills, Low blood potassium level, Fatigue, Vomiting, Constipation, Loss of appetite, Diarrhea, Low counts of platelets, Missed periods, Disturbed heart rhythms, Pain, Dehydration, Sore mouth, Nausea, Lungs and gut, A rise in liver enzymes, Low counts of neutrophils, Lack of sleep, Peeling and bleeding from the inner lining of mouth, Infections, Increased blood level of creatinine and/or urea, Skin changes, Disturbed metabolism, Weakness or breathlessness due to lack of oxygen in blood, Decreased white blood cells, Pale skin, Allergic skin rash, Decreased hemoglobin level
