Cefpodoxime(100 Mg)
Uses
Cefpodoxime is a cephalosporin antiboitic with similar structure as that of penicillin. It is used in the treatment of certain bacterial infections in the body like urinary tract infection, sexually transmitted disease (gonorrhea), lung infection (pneumonia), kidney infection (pyelonephritis), sinusitis, skin or soft tissue Infection, inflammation of tonsils (tonsillitis), sore throat (pharyngitis), and upper respiratory tract infection.
How it works
It works by interfering with the formation of the outer covering (cell wall) of bacteria so that the wall ruptures and results in the death of the bacteria.
Dosage
Always follow the instructions of doctor regarding the dosage and duration.
Adults and adolescents: 100-400 mg orally every 12 hours for 5-14 days days.
Infants/Children (2 months to 12 years): 5 mg/kg/dose orally every 12 hours for 5-14 days.
Common side effects
Very Common: diarrhea.
Common: Change in the color, amount, or smell of vaginal fluid.
Rare: Abdominal or stomach pain, tenderness, black stools, bladder pain, burning while urinating, decreased urination, frequent urge to urinate bleeding gums, bloody or cloudy urine swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet, bloody nose, blurred vision, chest pain, collection of blood under the skin, confusion, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), cough producing mucus, difficulty with breathing or troubled breathing, dilated neck veins, dizziness, extreme weakness (fatigue), fast, irregular, pounding, or racing heartbeat or pulse, increase in heart rate, feeling of warmth or heat, flushing or redness of the skin, especially on the face and neck, headache, hearing loss, heavier menstrual periods, urge to vomit or vomiting, loss of appetite, dry mouth, increased thirst, increased weight, itching of the vagina or genital area, lower back or side pain, nervousness, pain during sexual intercourse, pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones, sore throat, sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth.
Who should not take
Cefpodoxime should not be given to patients who are allergic to any ingredient in cefpodoxime or to any other cephalosporin antibiotic (cephalexin, cefprozil).
