Alpha Lipoic Acid(100mg)
Uses
Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) is used to enhance effects of primary antidiabetic therapy (adjuvant therapy) in patients with diabetes as it lowers blood glucose by binding to insulin (a hormone that controls blood sugar level in the body) receptor in the body which leads to increase glucose utilization. Also, due to its antioxidant activity, ALA is used to treat nerve damage due to uncontrolled blood sugar level that causes pain, tingling, or numbness over hands and feet (diabetic neuropathy). ALA is used as an antioxidant as an adjuvant treatment of HIV, cancer, liver ailments, and various other conditions.
How it works
Alpha lipoic acid acts as a potent antioxidant (substance that protects against cell damage) by neutralizing the free radicals (waste products formed in the body during energy production) such as reactive oxygen and nitrogen species. Further, it initiates natural antioxidant processes in the body. It also maintains the levels of Vitamin E and Vitamin C in the body.
Dosage
Always follow the instructions of doctor regarding the dosage and duration.
There are no established doses for alpha lipoic acid.
Oral: As an antioxidant support: 20 - 50 mg daily.
Diabetes and diabetic neuropathy: 800 mg daily in divided doses.
However, the dose may range from 300 mg to 1800 mg daily.
Common side effects
Allergic reactions (rashes, hives, itching), abdominal pain, urge to vomit (nausea), vomiting, loose motions (diarrhea), and sensation of spinning or rotation (vertigo).
Who should not take
Alpha lipoic acid is not recommended for use in children.Mecobalamin(750mcg)
Uses
To treat low hemoglobin or red blood cells (pernicious and megaloblastic anemia), loss of sensation and pain in extremities (neuropathy). Also used as adjunct therapy in rare conditions that involves severe muscle tightness and decrease in muscle mass (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).
How it works
Mecobalamin (active form of vitamin B12) assists important enzymes involved in energy production form fats and proteins and synthesis of haemoglobin. It is known to increase production and development of red blood cells by the bone marrow. It assists enzyme methionine synthase which is involved in breakdown of homocysteine thereby reducing its level.
Dosage
Common side effects
It is usually safe when taken orally. Loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, allergic reactions (skin rashes), itching and other injection site related side effects (pain and blood clots) may occur.
Who should not take
Hypersensitivity.Pregabalin(75mg)
Uses
Pregabalin is used to treat fits (seizures), pain caused by damage to the nerves, and generalized anxiety disorders in adults.
How it works
Pregabalin belongs to group of medications called antiepileptics. It acts by modifying the release of certain substances released by the nerves in the brain (neurotransmitters) to restrict the transfer of pain signals between nerves, thereby reducing pain caused by damage to the nerves, as well as symptoms of fits (seizures).
Dosage
Always follow the instructions of doctor regarding the dosage and duration.
Treatment of seizures: 150-600 mg daily divided in 2-3 doses.
Common side effects
Very Common: Dizziness, drowsiness, headache, feeling of elation, confusion, decrease in sexual interest, irritability, clumsiness, memory impairment, l, tremor, difficulty with speaking, tingling feeling, numbness, sedation, sleepiness (lethargy), unable to sleep (insomnia), fatigue, feeling abnormal, blurred vision, dry mouth, Increased appetite, difficulty in passing stool (constipation), vomiting, gas (flatulence), loose motions (diarrhea), urge to vomit (nausea), weight gain, muscle cramp, joint pain, back pain, tiredness, sore throat.hypersensitivity reactions.
Who should not take
Children below 18 years.
Patients with known hypersensitivity to pregabalin.
