Cilnidipine(Mg)
Uses
Cilnidipine is used in the treatment of high blood pressure (essentia hypertension).
How it works
Cilnidipine belong to a class of medications called calcium channel blockers. It blocks the activity of calcium channels present in the blood vessels and heart muscles, and works by relaxing the blood vessels so the heart does not have to pump as hard. It also increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart.
Dosage
Always follow the instructions of doctor regarding the dosage and duration.
Treatment of high blood pressure in adults: 5-10 mg once daily, increase to 20 mg once daily if necessary.
Common side effects
Dizziness, flushing, headache, hypotension, peripheral edema, tachycardia, palpitations, gastrointestinal disturbances, increased urination, lethargy, eye pain, depression, ischemic chest pain, cerebral or myocardial ischemia, transient blindness, rashes, fever, abnormal liver function, gingival hyperplasia, myalgia, tremor, impotence.
Who should not take
Patients having allergy to cilnidipine, or any of its ingredients.
Patients with cardiogenic shock; recent MI or acute unstable angina; severe aortic stenosis. Chlorthalidone(Mg)
Uses
Chlorthalidone is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), heart failure, and to reduce the fluid retention that occurs with some kidney or liver diseases (edema), and to treat a condition in which an individual produces large amounts of dilute urine and is constantly thirsty (diabetes insipidus).
How it works
Chlorthalidone belongs to class of medications called thiazide diuretics. It acts by increasing excretion of sodium and potassium in the urine, which causes elimination of the excess water from body.
Dosage
Always follow the instructions of doctor regarding the dosage and duration; 25-50 mg per day, which can be increased to 100 mg per day if necessary.
Common side effects
Low potassium in blood, abnormally high level of uric acid in blood, rise in blood lipid level, high blood sodium level, low blood magnesium level, high blood glucose level, pale red raised itchy skin, low blood pressure with change in position, dizziness, loss of appetite, gastrointestinal disturbances, impotence, abnormally high level of glucose in urine, worsening of diabetic metabolic state, sensitivity to sunlight (photosensitization), abnormal liver function including yellowing of skin and eyes (jaundice), mild urge to vomit (nausea) and vomiting, gastric pain, difficulty in passing stool (constipation), loose motion (diarrhea), abnormal blood counts.
Who should not take
Patients hypersensitive to chlortalidone or with other sulphonamide derivatives.
Patients suffering from severe hepatic or renal failure (creatinine clearance <30ml/min), inability of kidneys to produce urine (anuria), refractory hypokalaemia, hyponatraemia and hypercalcaemia, symptomatic hyperuricemia (history of gout or uric acid calculi), hypertension during pregnancy, untreated Addison's disease and concomitant lithium therapy.
