Uses
Bicalutamide is used either alone or along with radical prostatectomy or radiotherapy (types of cancer treatment) in adult men with advanced prostate cancer. It is also used for management in prostate cancer in patients where surgical castration (surgical removal of the testicles) or other medical intervention is not considered appropriate or acceptable.
How it works
Bicalutamide belongs to a class of drugs called nonsteroidal antiandrogens. It works by blocking the effect of androgen (a male hormone), to stop the growth and spread of cancer cells.
Common side effects
Hair re-growth or growth of extra hair, Decrease in sex drive, Depression, Chest pain, Dry skin, Hot flushes, Reduced sex drive and reduced fertility, Pain in abdomen, Skin rash, Nausea or vomiting, Dizziness, Nausea, Feeling sleepy, Blood in urine, Breathing problems or a worsening of a pre-existing breathing problem, Problems getting an erection, Loss of appetite, Weakness, Weight gain, Indigestion, Itching, Low levels of red blood cells, Constipation, Hair loss, Low hemoglobin, Yellowing of the skin or whites of eyes, Swelling, Liver problems.skin rash
