Uses
Triamcinolone is used to treat inflammation and allergies of the skin, nose or respiratory tract such as psoriasis, lupus, ulcerative colitis, arthritis, breathing disorders and certain types of cancer.
How it works
Triamcinolone belongs to a category of drugs called as corticosteroids. It works by reducing the production of substances in the body that cause inflammation and allergies.
Dosage
Always follow the instructions of doctor regarding the dosage and duration.
Asthma:
Adults: 8 to 16 mg once a day (oral), 2 inhalations (150 microgram), 3-4 times a day.
Children (6 to 12 years): 1 to 2 inhalations (75 mcg to 150 mcg), given 3 to 4 times a day.
Dermatitis:
Adults: 8 to 16 mg once a day (oral) along with application of topical cream.
Skin and eye infections :
Adults: 12 to 40 mg orally daily.
Arthritis:
Adults: 8 to 16 mg orally daily.
Leukemia:
Adults: 16 to 40 mg orally daily.
Children: 1 mg/kg orally daily, maximum 2 mg /kg daily.
Common side effects
Heartburn or indigestion, runny nose, headache, sore throat and/or cough,nosebleeds, inflammation/irritation of the airways (bronchitis), Flu-like symptoms (fever, muscle pain, weakness and/or fatigue), problems with teeth and bones, nausea, sleepiness, dizziness, tiredness, shortness of breath, blocked sinuses, irritation and dryness inside the nose, coughing, sneezing, a decrease in the levels of cortisol in the blood, cataract (cloudy lens in the eye), glaucoma (raised pressure inside the eye) and changes in taste or smell.
Who should not take
The drug should not be taken:
If the patient is allergic to it.
If the patient any serious illness or infection.
If the patient has recently received any live vaccine.
